E. Scott Griffin
appointed President and CEO of Superior Pine Products
Superior Pine Products Company of Fargo, Georgia, one of the state’s oldest continuing forest-based enterprises, announced that E. Scott Griffin will join the company March 1 as Executive Vice President and will become President and CEO upon the planned retirement of Miles A. (Andy) Stone on July 1, 2019.
Griffin is leaving his position as National Operations Manager for Campbell Global based in Portland, Oregon to join Superior Pine Products Company. At Campbell, Griffin has been responsible for the management of approximately 2 million acres of timberland throughout the United States.
Griffin will join the family-based company that has deep roots in Georgia forestry. Begun in 1926 as a producer of rosin and turpentine from living pine trees—historically known as “naval stores”—Superior Pine Products is now a diversified company involved in producing timber for the forest products companies in the southeast but also non-traditional products from the same coastal soils that grow trees fast: blueberries. Superior also operates a real estate subsidiary offering living space for people seeking a rural lifestyle.
"We are very excited to have Scott join us," said Superior Pine Products Chairman William J. Lawrence III. "It has been our great fortune to have been very ably guided by Andy Stone through a time of growth and positive change for our company. Andy is one of the Southeast's leading forestry executives, and we are equally fortunate to have Scott as Andy's successor. We know that Scott's strong leadership ability and wide range of experience will serve us well as we continue on our path of growth and responsible stewardship of our land."
The underlying asset of Superior Pine Products is Suwannee Forest—180,000 acres of highly productive timberland in the Atlantic Coastal flatlands of Echols and Clinch counties in Southeast Georgia near the Florida border and 30,000 acres of timberland in South Central Alabama. The Suwannee Forest is named for the storied river that rises nearby in the Okefenokee Swamp.
Griffin will be the fourth forester to be named president of the company in its 93-year history. The board of directors of Superior Pine Products includes descendants of the three men who founded the company in 1926.
A forestry graduate of Mississippi State University, Griffin’s career includes time with the Mississippi Forestry Commission, Resource Management Service, Forest Systems and Campbell Global. Griffin has served in the Army National Guard since 1987 and plans to retire at the rank of Colonel. Griffin remains active in various Forestry Associations, the Society of American Foresters, the Association of Consulting Foresters and a SAF Certified and Registered Forester. Griffin has multiple military diplomas from the U.S. Army Command and Staff College.
He and his wife Hillery currentlymake their home in Vancouver, Washington. They have two daughters and three sons who live throughout the Southeast.
